Merton College

DOMUS B GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIPS

Merton College is offering two Domus B Graduate Scholarships in 2008. The Scholarships are intended to assist Home and EU students of outstanding academic excellence who for financial reasons would not otherwise be able to study at the University of Oxford.

The scholarships provide College and University fees and a maintenance grant of £10,500. Subject to satisfactory progress, the scholarships will be tenable for three years in the case of direct entry doctoral programmes and four in cases where a preparatory Master's course is required before the doctorate. Scholars are guaranteed College single accommodation (if required) for the first year, after which they can enter the graduate room ballot. Scholars must meet the costs of this accommodation themselves.

The competition is open to graduates of any university who can demonstrate that they satisfy all the following conditions. They should: have a first class honours degree; ordinarily be resident in the UK or EU; have not done more than two years of postgraduate study or research; and have, by 29 August 2008, been accepted to begin, but have not yet begun, a course of study leading to the degree of Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Oxford in October 2008 in any of the subjects normally acceptable for graduate study at the College, except the M.B.A., M.Sc. in Financial Economics, and M.Sc. in Management Studies (for a list of subjects normally acceptable, see http://www.admin.ox.ac.uk/postgraduate/Programmes of study by college.pdf ); and have no other funding which would allow them to take up this offer.

The College will consider applications from current Oxford students who are completing a Masters programme in the summer of 2008, but candidates who have already begun their D.Phil. are ineligible.

The closing date for receipt of applications for this competition is 29 August 2008. Applicants who have not been accepted as doctoral students by the relevant Faculty or Department of the University by 29 August 2008 will be rejected. Further particulars, including details of the applications process, can be downloaded from http://www.merton.ox.ac.uk/vacancies/index.shtml, or in case of difficulty, may be obtained from the Admissions Officer, Merton College, Oxford, OX1 4JD, UK (tel. +44 (0)1865 276299; fax +44 (0)1865 286500; email admissions@admin.merton.ox.ac.uk).
