Report of the Council on the sale of premises in Trumpington Street and Fitzwilliam Street: Notice

9 June 2008

The Council has considered the remarks made by Professor G. R. Evans at the Discussion on 29 April 2008 (Reporter, p. 740), and has agreed to respond as follows:

The Report of 17 March 2008 explains that the properties are at the north-western corner of the Old Addenbrooke's Site, back onto College property, and have no direct access to adjacent University land and properties. These factors, taken with the status of 1 and 2 Fitzwilliam Street and 29A Trumpington Street as 'grade 2' listed buildings, mean that the properties have no long-term strategic value to the University in relation to the development of the Old Addenbrooke's Site. As converted houses, the properties do not provide office space to modern standards and legislative requirements, and they are not required for University operational use. The Council has accepted the advice of the Finance Committee that the properties are suitable for conversion back to residential use, and that sale of the freeholds will maximize the proceeds.

The Council has agreed to submit a Grace (Grace 3, p. 862) to the Regent House for approval of the recommendation of this Report.
