READERSHIP IN APPLIED MATHEMATICS IN ASSOCIATION WITH ST CATHERINE'S COLLEGE

The Mathematical Institute (within the Mathematical, Physical, and Life Sciences Division) proposes to appoint a Reader in Applied Mathematics with effect from 1 October 2008 or as soon as possible thereafter. The successful candidate will be offered a Tutorial Fellowship at St Catherine's College, under arrangements described in the further particulars. The combined University and College salary will be on a scale up to £59,367 a year. The successful candidate must have a record of internationally excellent research in applied mathematics and be able to contribute effectively to, and lead research in, the Oxford Centre for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (OCIAM). In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to teach over a wide range of topics in the undergraduate and Masters mathematics syllabus at Oxford, to supervise graduate students, and to play an active part in the administration of both the College and the Department.

The successful candidate will be appointed to a Tutorial Fellowship at St Catherine's College. Further allowances may be payable from the College as detailed in its associated further particulars.

PERMANENT FACULTY POSITION IN MATHEMATICAL OR COMPUTATIONAL BIOLOGY

The Mathematical Institute and Oxford University Computing Laboratory propose to make a permanent Faculty appointment in Mathematical or Computational Biology, with effect from 1 October 2008. The salary will be on a scale up to £54,207 a year.

The post-holder will be based in the Oxford Centre for Collaborative Applied Mathematics (OCCAM), which has been established with substantial funding from the Global Research Partnership of the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST).

The appointee will be expected to have a research record in Mathematical or Computational Biology consistent with the international standing of the University, and will play a leading role in planning and developing the research programme of OCCAM.

The appointee will be expected to have the ability to teach effectively over a wide range of mathematical topics, not exclusively in the area of her or his expertise.
