Graces submitted to the Regent House on 21 May 2008

The Council submits the following Graces to the Regent House. These Graces, other than any which is withdrawn or for which a ballot is requested in accordance with the regulations for Graces of the Regent House (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 109), will be deemed to have been approved at 4 p.m. on Friday, 30 May 2008.

1. A. That, on the recommendation of the Faculty Board of Social and Political Sciences and with the concurrence of the General Board, the title of the Social and Political Sciences Tripos (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 391) be amended, for those candidates starting the Tripos in 1 October 2008 or in later years, to the Politics, Psychology, and Sociology Tripos.1

  B. That Regulation 2(d)(iii) for the Degree of Bachelor of Arts by Honours (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 408) be amended so as to read:
(iii)two of the following examinations: Part I of the Archaeological and Anthropological Tripos, Part I of the Economics Tripos, Part I of the History of Art Tripos, Part I of the Politics, Psychology, and Sociology Tripos, Part I of the Social and Political Sciences Tripos, Part I of the Theological and Religious Studies Tripos;

2. That the regulations for the election of student members of Faculty Boards and other bodies be amended as follows:2

Regulation 8.

By amending the first sentence of the regulation so as to read:

Not later than the tenth day after the division of the Michaelmas Term, the Registrary shall send to the returning officer for each body to which these regulations apply an electoral roll of all the persons who on 15 November were eligible, under the provisions of Statute C, IV, 2 and of these regulations, to vote and to stand as candidates in the election.

3. That the term of the Readership in Brain Physics, established for five years from 1 October 2003 by Grace 5 of 18 February 2004, be amended to one tenure.3

4. That the recommendations in paragraph 7 of the Report of the Council, dated 21 April 2008, on Phase 6 of the Stage III extension to the University Library (Reporter, 2007-08, p. 651) be approved.4

5. That the recommendations in paragraph 4 of the Report of the General Board, dated 16 April 2008, on the re-establishment of a Professorship of Protein Crystallography (Reporter, 2007-08, p. 707) be approved.

1 Statutes and Ordinances, p. 391. The change in name of the Tripos is proposed to clarify the constituent disciplines offered in the Tripos. Candidates who are currently following the course will continue to take papers under the title of the Social and Political Sciences Tripos, while candidates starting on or after 1 October 2008 will take papers under the title of the Politics, Psychology, and Sociology Tripos. No changes in the content of the papers offered have been made as a result of the change in title.

2 Statutes and Ordinances, p. 549. Recent amendments to the regulations for entries and lists of candidates for examinations have moved the cutoff date for examination entries from 31 October to 15 November (Grace 2 of 21 November 2007). The amendment to these regulations is proposed to reflect this change in date.

3 The Department of Clinical Neurosciences have confirmed that funding is available to meet the full cost of appointment to the Readership for the tenure of the current holder.

4 The Council has considered the remarks made at the Discussion of this Report (p. 804) but do not wish to make any response.
