Report of the General Board on the re-establishment of a Professorship of Protein Crystallography

The GENERAL BOARD beg leave to report to the University as follows:

1. In their Report on the establishment of certain fixed-term Professorships (Reporter, 2000-01 p. 814), the General Board proposed, inter alia, the establishment of a Professorship of Protein Crystallography in the Department of Haematology for Professor R. J. Read for the period 1 October 2001 to 31 May 2008. The Professorship was established for a fixed term to coincide with the availability of external funds supporting the Wellcome Trust Principal Research Fellowship held by Professor Read. The recommendations of this Report were approved by Grace 8 of 25 July 2001.

2. The Wellcome Trust has renewed the funding for Professor Read for a further period of ten years to 31 May 2018. The School of Clinical Medicine has agreed to meet the cost of the Professorship for the remainder of Professor Read's tenure, for the period from 1 June 2018 to 30 September 2024.

3. The General Board accordingly recommend the re-establishment of a Professorship of Protein Crystallography in the Department of Haematology from 1 June 2008 for the duration of Professor Read's tenure.

4. The General Board recommend:

That the Professorship of Protein Crystallography, established by Grace 8 of 25 July 2001, be re-established from 1 June 2008 for the tenure of Professor Randy John Read, placed in Schedule B of the Statutes, and assigned to the Department of Haematology.
