The Queen's College

OFFICAL FELLOWSHIP AND PRAELECTORSHIP IN SPANISH

The College invites applications for appointment to an Official Fellowship and Praelectorship (that is, a Tutorial Fellowship) in Spanish with effect from 1 October 2008 or as soon thereafter as practicable. The post will be held in conjunction with a Faculty Lecturership in Spanish. Applicants for the Fellowship will be deemed to have applied also for the Faculty Lecturership. The successful applicant will be required to undertake research and to make a major contribution to teaching Spanish to undergraduates at The Queen's College. The Faculty Board has expressed a preference for expertise in Modern Peninsular Literature. The combined University and College salary will be on an appropriate point of the combined College and University scale (Grade 10a) which starts at £37,642 and reaches a maximum of £52,628 a year. LECTURERSHIP IN ECONOMICS

The Governing Body proposes to elect a suitably qualified candidate to a Stipendiary Lecturership in Economics for three years, in the first instance, from 1 October 2008. The Lecturer will be required to teach up to six hours a week and the basic stipend will be on a scale from £11,501 (under review) a year (together with certain other allowances).

EIGHT-HOUR STIPENDIARY LECTURERSHIP IN CLASSICS

The Queen's College proposes, if a suitable candidate applies, to appoint an eight-hour Stipendiary Lecturer in Classics for the academical year 2008-09, the period of Dr Bowie's sabbatical leave.

Teaching requirements may vary, but the Lecturer will be expected to teach Homer and Virgil for Honour Moderations, as well as some literary papers for the Final Honour School.

He/she will be expected to teach an average of eight hours a week, to organize teaching, and to participate in the undergraduate admissions exercise in December 2008.

The stipend will be £15,335 a year (under review), and the Lecturer will be entitled either to accommodation in College, or to a teaching room and a housing allowance in lieu, and to free lunch and dinner at the Common Table. Other allowances may also be available. Where appropriate, the Lecturer will be placed on the USS.
