COLLEGE LECTURESHIP IN HISTORY

Gonville and Caius College invites applications for a College Lectureship in History. Applications are welcome from individuals with expertise in extra-European history, including North American history, who are able to teach for papers within the Cambridge Historical Tripos.

The successful candidate will be required to teach at the undergraduate level for six hours a week if they hold a post in the University or ten hours a week otherwise. The appointment will be for three years in the first instance, with the possibility of renewal for a further two years and thereafter reappointment to the retiring age. The annual stipend of a College Lecturer who does not hold a University or other office is currently on a scale of £30,012 to £38,019 if not resident in College and £27,012 to £35,019 if resident in College.

It is intended that the person appointed will take up the Lectureship either immediately upon appointment or on a date to be agreed before 1 October 2008.

Further particulars can be obtained from the College website at http://www.cai.cam.ac.uk/, or in writing from The Senior Tutor, Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge, CB2 1TA. Completed applications should be sent by 2 May 2008. Candidates are also asked to arrange for three supporting references to be sent to the same address, and by the same date. It is hoped that interviews will take place by the end of May.

TEACHING ASSOCIATES

Gonville and Caius College wishes to appoint up to ten non-stipendiary Teaching Associates to help provide supervision for undergraduate students of the College. Applications for appointment are welcome from current or potential supervisors in any field, though at the moment there is a particular need for supervision in certain subjects listed on the College's website. Priority will naturally be given to securing supervision in those subjects. It is expected that Teaching Associates will be able and willing to provide around four hours of supervision each week during Full Term. As well as being paid at the standard rate for all supervisions provided, Teaching Associates will be entitled to one free meal each week during term with the Fellows of the College, and to bring one paying guest to High Table each term. Although made annually, appointments may be renewed. Applicants are eligible for appointment only if they have no current affiliation to any College in the University. The assumption is that most applicants will be engaged in research in the University at post-doctoral level, but this is only an assumption.

Applications for appointment, consisting of a letter indicating the subjects in which supervision could be provided and for how many hours, together with a curriculum vitae, should be sent to the Senior Tutor of the College before the end of May in each year. Relevant Directors of Studies will be asked to comment on the applications received and, in the light of their expressions of need and interest, recommendations will be made to the College Council by the Education Committee. Applicants should receive a response from the College by the middle of July.
