ACCESS AND SCHOOLS LIAISON POST 2008-09

This position would be suitable for a recent graduate (undergraduate or postgraduate) with first-hand experience of the Cambridge undergraduate system and/or experience of teaching or advising Year 12 students. The work will involve maintaining and developing the Colleges' links with UK schools and colleges. We have special projects working with schools and colleges in the state sector in Lincolnshire, South Yorkshire, and the North East of England.

The post-holder should have good interpersonal skills and be comfortable talking with individuals and groups of students, teachers, and career advisers. The work will be based in Cambridge but will involve some travel and require flexible hours of working. Possession of a full driving licence is desirable.

Candidates should be very well organized, computer-literate - preferably with some knowledge of Microsoft Office software, including Word and Access - and able to work both alone and as a member of a team. Familiarity with the operation of video-conferencing technology is desirable, but not essential.

The post-holder will also need to demonstrate a strong commitment to establishing links with schools and schoolteachers and to encouraging pupils to consider the possibility of making a Cambridge application. More generally, there will be an aim to spread the message of the value of continuing from school into a university course of higher education.

The post is intended to start by the end of July 2008 and to be of one year's duration, with the possibility of a second year. The salary will be £19,841 a year.

Those interested in the possibility of applying should begin by emailing brief details to the Personnel Officer at Homerton College (jem84@cam.ac.uk), as soon as possible, and no later than 2 May 2008.
