St John's College

SUPERNUMERARY TEACHING FELLOWSHIP IN LAW

St John's College invites applications from suitably qualified men and women for a five-year fixed-term Supernumerary Teaching Fellowship in Law (without membership of Governing Body), with effect from 1 October 2008. The person appointed will be expected to teach undergraduates up to a maximum of eight hours each week during term, and to play a full part in the organization of law teaching in St John's for undergraduates reading for the degrees of Law and Law with Law Studies in Europe.

Candidates must be able to give tutorials in at least two and preferably three of the following subjects for the undergraduate degrees: Roman law; Constitutional law; Trusts law; Land law; EC law. Details of the undergraduate syllabus in law can be found at http://www.law.ox.ac.uk/. The Fellow will also be expected to share administrative and pastoral duties and to participate in the undergraduate admissions process.

The election to the Fellowship will be for one year in the first instance, renewable subject to a satisfactory report on the specific duties. No duties are required for the University, and the approval of the College must be sought before any are undertaken. A year of sabbatical leave will be offered as the final year of the appointment to permit the Fellow to further his or her research.

The person appointed will have or will have obtained by 1 October 2008 a higher degree in law (whether a doctorate or LL.M. or equivalent) and will be expected to engage in original research. The annual salary will be on the incremental scale of £25,889 - £30,913.
