CHAIR (HEAD) OF THE VON HÜGEL INSTITUTE

Applications are invited for the position of Chair (Head) of the Institute tenable from 1 October 2008. The Institute fosters significant social scientific and scholarly work in the relation of Christianity to society and the promotion of more just social structures. Current research is in particular in the fields of development economics, education, migration, social enterprise, and sustainable consumption. The Institute also preserves and develops the Roman Catholic tradition of the College by research and analysis, which informs Catholic social policy and practice. The work is undertaken in a broad ecumenical and interfaith context.

The holder of this position will be responsible for the co-ordination and viability of the Institute's activities. She/he will encourage interdisciplinary studies and seminars, and aim to enhance recognition of the work of the Institute both within academia and as it relates to societal issues.

The successful candidate will be responsible to the College Council and will be of appropriate academic standing to be a Fellow of St Edmund's College.
