RESEARCH/TEACHING FELLOWSHIP IN FRENCH

Applications are invited for a Research/Teaching Fellowship in French for the academical year 2008-09 and tenable for three years. The appointment will include a teaching component of four hours a week.

The position is open to graduates of any university with no age limit, but is intended to support those at an early stage in their academic careers, and will normally be awarded to a candidate who has recently completed a Ph.D. Degree or is close to completion. The competition involves assessment of candidates' submitted work and interview, which will also consider teaching experience.

Those interested should note that the standard needed to progress to the later stages of the Fellowship competitions is extremely high. Overseas candidates should also note that the College cannot be responsible for any payment of air fares should they be short-listed for interview.

The emoluments of a Fellowship are reviewed annually. The present stipend is £15,523 a year for a Fellow who has not proceeded to the Ph.D. Degree, and £16,673 a year, rising by two annual increments to £18,991 a year, for a post-Ph.D. Fellow. The teaching element of the appointment will be recognized by a further payment based on the College Lecturer Category Aa stipend scale which is currently on a scale ranging from £2,971 to £4,651 a year. Research expenses up to a total of £2,500 over the three years of the Fellowship may be paid.
