Announcement of lectures, seminars, etc.

The following lectures, seminars, etc. will be open to members of the University and others who are interested:

Asian and Middle Eastern Studies. Professor Edward Shaughnessy, of the University of Chicago, will give a lecture, entitled Slippery texts: a third misplaced strip in the bamboo annals, at 5 p.m., on 3 March at the Needham Research Institute, 8 Sylvester Road.

Continuing Education. Research Seminar Series. Professor Frank Coffield, of the University of London, will give a seminar entitled Public sector reform: principles for improving the education system, at 5.30 p.m. on 16 April at Wolfson College, Barton Road. Light refreshments will be served afterwards. Criminology. Professor Daniel Nagin, of Heinz School of Public Policy, Carnegie-Mellon University, Pittsburgh, will give a public seminar, entitled The effect of imprisonment on criminal career development, at 5.30 p.m. on 6 March in Seminar Room B3 at the Institute of Criminology, Sidgwick Avenue.

Gender Equality. A GeNet seminar on the consequences of partnership breakdown for women, men, and children will take place from 1.30 p.m. until 4.30 p.m. on 7 March at Queens' College. Speakers will include: Stuart Bridge, of the Faculty of Law and Queens' College, and Law Commissioner, Anne Barlow, of the University of Exeter, Jane Lewis, of the National Children's Bureau, and Debora Price, of King's College London. Pure Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics. Professor Jun Liu, of Harvard University, will give the Seventy-Fourth Kuwait Foundation Lecture entitled Bayesian inference of genetic epistasis in case-control studies, at 5 p.m. on 4 March, in the Wolfson Room, Centre for Mathematical Sciences, Wilberforce Road (entrance on Clarkson Road before the Isaac Newton Institute).
