CAREER DEVELOPMENT FELLOWSHIP: THE HISTORY OF ST HUGH'S COLLEGE

Applications are invited for a Career Development Fellowship in History at St Hugh's College, Oxford, tenable from 1 October 2008. This is a fixed-term three-year position intended for an individual who has recently completed a doctorate and wishes to embark on an academic career. It is open to those working in modern (19th and 20th century) British history, with interests in the history of women and of education. St Hugh's College celebrates its 125th anniversary in 2011, and the Career Development Fellow will produce a significant publication to mark this anniversary. This publication will be a substantial piece of research which should set the history of the College in the context of the history of education reform and women's social position within the University and the country. The project is not envisaged as a conventional, narrowly focused College history, and the Fellow will be free to interpret and present the history of the College as he or she sees fit.

The College history should be ready for publication by the end of 2010 and the post-holder will then work exclusively on his or her own research project during the third year of the Fellowship. During the final year of the appointment, the post-holder will also contribute to the teaching of History in St Hugh's College under the direction of the Fellows in the subject.

The stipend for the post will be £25,889 a year. Further particulars may be viewed at http://www.st-hughs.ox.ac.uk/, under the 'Current Vacancies' link, or are available from the Academic Administrator, St Hugh's College, Oxford, OX2 6LE. The closing date for applications, and the last date for receipt of references direct from referees, is 7 March 2008.

St Hugh's College is an equal opportunities employer.
