Defence Scientific Advisory Council (DSAC)

VACANCIES FOR NEW COUNCIL MEMBERS

The Defence Scientific Advisory Council (DSAC) is an Advisory Non-Departmental Public Body established to provide independent advice to the Secretary of State for Defence on non-nuclear Science, Engineering, Technology, and Analysis (SETA) issues. This includes review and scrutiny of the Ministry of Defence's non-nuclear research programme.

New members are sought to fill the existing capability gaps in Council. Names of all Council members are placed in the public domain. Applicants should have an outstanding, internationally recognized reputation in science, engineering, or technology, or senior industrial experience in a technology driven sector. They should also be able to make broad judgements on how science and technology in general can be applied to defence.

The posts are part-time, taking between 10 to 20 days a year, depending on involvement in various activities. Successful applicants will be invited to serve for a three-year term, with the possibility of renewal for a further three years.

Further information and an application form may be obtained from the DSAC Secretariat, preferably by e-mail (SIT-DSAC-Office@mod.uk), or from Independent Scientific and Technical Advice, 01.J.06 MOD Main Building, Whitehall, London, SW1A 2HB. Further information is also available at http://www.publicappts-vacs.gov.uk/. The closing date for applications is 31 March 2008.
