Antiquarian Society

The next meeting will take place on 3 March, at 6 p.m. (preceded by the Annual General Meeting at 5.45 p.m.) in the Law Faculty Building, West Road. Philip Howell will speak on A vortex of dissipation? Prostitution and the University of Cambridge in the nineteenth century. Members may bring guests and students are warmly invited to attend.

The Society's Annual Spring Conference on the theme Not just old bones: the archaeology of past lives will be held on 8 March between 10 a.m. and 4.45 p.m. in Room LG19 of the Law Faculty Building, West Road. The programme will be as follows:

Introduction to techniques and terminologies, by Dr J. Heathcote, of English Heritage.

Archaeology and the crime scene, by Professor J. Hunter, of Birmingham University.

Diet, disease, and demography, by Dr E. Popescu, of Cam ARC, Cambridge.

Lunch, 12.45 p.m. to 2.15 p.m.

The Amesbury archer and the men of Stonehenge, by Dr A. Fitzpatrick, of Wessex Archaeology.

Reconstructing an Etruscan noblewoman, by Dr J. Swaddling, of the British Museum.

Hidden faces of Overlord: analysis of D-Day from reconnaissance imagery, by Mr C. Going, of Geoinformation Historic Ltd.

Places for non-members are £10 and for members of CAS and of its Affiliated Societies, £8.50. Morning coffee and afternoon tea are included.
