SIR VIVIAN FUCHS CENTENARY LECTURE AND EXHIBITION

On Friday, 15 February at 6 p.m. in the Lee Hall, Wolfson College, a talk will be given by Professor Nicholas Owens, Director of the British Antarctic Survey (BAS), to mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of the Antarctic explorer and first Director of BAS, Sir Vivian Fuchs, and the 50th anniversary of the first land crossing of the Antarctic continent, an expedition led by Fuchs. The title of the talk is British Antarctic Survey: unde venimus, ubi stamus, quo ibimus (whence have we come, where do we stand, whither shall we go?).

There will also be a small exhibition reflecting the two anniversaries in the Combination Room of Wolfson College from Monday, 11 February (Fuchs's birth date) to Sunday, 17 February (9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, except Monday from 2 p.m.), with items and displays from BAS and the Scott Polar Research Institute.

All are welcome both to the talk and the exhibition.
