The Vice-Chancellor gives notice that she has received a proposal for amendment to Grace 2 of 5 December 2007 (Reporter, p. 360).
The Grace at present reads as follows:
That the recommendations in paragraph 8 of the Report of the Council, dated 22 October 2007, on governance: membership of the Council, etc. (Reporter, 2007-08, p. 109), as amended by the Council's Notice on p. 347, be approved.
The amendment proposed is as follows:
That the recommendations in paragraph 8 of the Report of the Council, dated 22 October 2007, on governance: membership of the Council, etc. (Reporter, 2007-08, p. 109), as amended by the Council's Notice on p. 347, be approved, and that in addition
(i) Statute A, IV, 4(c) be replaced by:
(c) Members of the Council in class (e) shall be appointed to serve for four years from 1 January in a year when the calendar year is odd, with the appointment of half the members in each year when the calendar year is odd.
(ii) a new section A, IV, 6(e) be added to Statute A, IV as follows:
(e) If any casual vacancy occurs by death, by resignation, or otherwise, among the members in class (e), the casual vacancy shall be filled in accordance with the procedure for the appointment of members in class (e) in section 2 of this Statute.
(iii) a new section 57 be added to Statute T as follows:
57. The University shall by Grace make transitional provision for the appointment of members in class (e) of the University Council constituted in accordance with the amendments of Statute A, IV made by amended Grace 2 of 5 December 2007.

The Registrary has received, for submission to the Regent House under the provisions of Statute A, VIII, 7, a Grace initiated by 109 members of the Regent House concerning the nomination procedure for members of the Council in class (e) (External members).
The proposed amendment to Grace 2 of 5 December 2007 published above and the Grace initiated under the provisions of Statute A, VIII, 7 will be considered by the Council at its meeting on 21 January 2008.
