St Catherine's College

GLAXO SCHOLARSHIP IN MEDICINE

St Catherine's College proposes to elect a Glaxo Scholar with effect from September 2008. The Scholarship, worth £1,500 a year, will be tenable for up to two years whilst the recipient is liable for University and College fees, and is for all students who have a confirmed place on the Oxford University second B.M. commencing 2008 and any St Catherine's students who will commence the accelerated graduate entry medicine course in 2008 or commenced the second B.M. or accelerated graduate entry medicine course prior to 2008.

Before awarding the Scholarship, the College must be satisfied that sufficient funding is available to cover all costs, including University and College fees and maintenance, for the full duration of the course. For the academical year 2008-09, the University estimates that a single student spending twelve months in Oxford, and living in College accommodation, would need at least £10,500 to cover living expenses, excluding the cost of travel to and from Oxford.

The Scholarship may be held in conjunction with an award from another body and carries entitlement to limited High Table dining rights. It also carries entitlement to up to two years' single accommodation in College or a College House during the Scholarship (at the current room charge rate).

Applicants should send a curriculum vitae with a covering letter including a statement of other means of financial support to the Academic Registrar, St Catherine's College, Oxford, OX1 3UJ (fax 01865 271768, e-mail academic.registrar@stcatz.ox.ac.uk) to arrive not later than 15 February 2008. In addition, candidates should arrange for two people acquainted with their recent academic work to send a confidential report direct to the Academic Registrar at the same address to arrive not later than 15 February 2008.

The College does not plan to interview candidates for the Glaxo Scholarship (applicants will be notified of the outcome of their applications during the week ending 14 March 2008).
