University Lecturer in Atmospheric Chemistry in the Department of Chemistry

The Department of Chemistry wishes to appoint a University Lecturer in atmospheric chemistry to take up appointment as soon as possible. Candidates should have a strong research background in any branch of experimental atmospheric chemistry and must be able to teach at undergraduate level across a wide range of topics. The successful candidate will complement a strong research effort, covering numerical modelling and atmospheric and laboratory data collection/analysis, in the groups of Professors John Pyle and Rod Jones.

Appointments made at University Lecturer level will be for a probationary period of five years, with appointment to the retiring age thereafter. The pensionable scale of stipends for a University Lecturer is currently £33,779 to £42,791 a year.

Computer Officer (Digital Communications Co-ordinator) in the Office of External Affairs and Communications

The Office of External Affairs and Communications seeks an exceptional digital communications professional. The post-holder will write, edit, and maintain copy for the top levels of the University website (cam.ac.uk) and deliver plans that make effective use of emerging digital technologies.

The post-holder will provide direct co-ordination and editorial oversight for the web communications of the University's central administration and ensure consistency across all digital communications, both for design and copy.

A proactive team member, the successful candidate will work collaboratively with colleagues in the Office of External Affairs and Communications, as well as other departments. He or she will need extensive experience of structuring complex information for effective communication and have working knowledge of cross-platform issues, XHTML, CSS, and associated editing software. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential as the post-holder will be required to provide leadership and guidance on web communication issues to senior staff, content providers, and web editors. The salary will be in the range of £30,012 to £40,335 a year.

Administrative Officer (Education Section) in the Academic Division of the University Offices

The Education Section is the part of the University's central administration with responsibility for the implementation of the University's educational policies and procedures.

The post-holder will work with the members of the Section in supporting the University's procedures for the quality of learning, teaching, and assessment, in particular in areas relating to External Examiners and assessment, collaborative provision, and locally certificated courses. The successful candidate will be educated to degree level (or equivalent) and have relevant administrative experience, preferably in higher education. Good communication and IT skills, and the ability to work to tight deadlines, are essential. The salary will be in the range of £25,134 to £32,796 a year.

Administrative Officer (Reporter Editor) in the Secretariat, University Offices

Applications are invited for the post of Administrative Officer (Reporter Editor) in the Secretariat, University Offices from 10 March 2008 or as soon as possible after that date. The duties of this post will include day-to-day editorial responsibility for weekly issues of the Reporter and other official publications in the University, management of the Secretariat web pages, and related editorial activities.

The successful candidate will be educated to degree level. Good communication, organizational, and IT skills, and the ability to work to tight deadlines are essential. Some previous experience in university administration may be an advantage.

The appointment will be to the retiring age subject to the satisfactory completion of a probationary period. The salary, which is currently under review, will be in the range of £23,692 to £27,466 a year, with the possibility of progression on contribution once in post to £32,796. Salary on appointment will be determined according to qualifications and experience.

Temporary Lecturer (five-year fixed term) in Ukrainian Studies in the Department of Slavonic Studies

The Department of Slavonic Studies intends to appoint a Temporary Lecturer in Ukrainian Studies with effect from 1 September 2008. Candidates should have a record of - or clearly demonstrate the potential for - outstanding research and publication in Ukrainian Studies, preferably with a particular interest in Ukrainian literature and/or culture. This is a new post, funded by a generous private donation for five years as part of a pilot scheme to introduce Ukrainian Studies. The successful applicant will be strongly motivated to play a leading role in working towards the establishment and growth of the subject at all levels.
