Examination in Development Studies for the M.Phil. Degree, 2008: Amendments

The Development Studies Committee give notice that the following half subjects for examination have been withdrawn from the list of Group 2 (optional) subjects for the examination in Development Studies for the M.Phil. Degree in 2008, published on 25 July 2007 (Reporter, 2006-07, p. 911):

Subject 100       Economic growth, politics, and health since 1750 (Advanced Paper 3 from the examination in Economic and Social History).

Subject 291*      Environmental policy and politics (EP01 from the examination in Planning, Growth, and Regeneration).

Subject 311       Conservation and society (Optional Paper 2 from the examination in Environment, Society, and Development).

* This was incorrectly listed as Subject 129 in the Notice published on 25 July 2007.

The Committee give notice that the following subjects for examination have been added to the list of Group 2 (optional) subjects:

Full subjects

Subject 33        Anthropology of Latin America (Paper 2 from the examination in Latin-American Studies)

Half subjects

Subject 12        The economics of poor countries (Subject 501 from the examination in Economics)

In the examinations to be held in 2008 these subjects will be examined as follows:

Subject 33        One take-home examination and one 5,000-word essay

Subject 12        One three-hour written paper

The Committee also give notice that the form of examination for Subject 110, Quantitative research methods I (MPO-1 from the examination in Financial Research), and Subject 111, Quantitative research methods II (from the examination in Financial Research), have been revised as follows:

Subject 110 will be examined by means of twelve research exercises

Subject 111 will be examined by means of twelve research exercises

The Committee are satisfied that no candidate's preparation for the examination is adversely affected by these changes.
