RESEARCH ASSOCIATES IN THE FACULTY OF HISTORY: CHINA'S WAR WITH JAPAN

Applications are sought for one or two Research Associates to work on the project 'The persistence of conflict: China's war with Japan: Experience, legacy, and memory, 1931 to the present'.

The project has been funded by a generous award from the Leverhulme Trust, under its Research Leadership Scheme, and is directed by its Principal Investigator, Dr Rana Mitter. The project is interdisciplinary, combining historical and social science approaches to understanding the impact on China, widely defined, of the Sino-Japanese war of the mid-twentieth century.

The project now seeks to appoint one or two Research Associates who will take up their positions by September 2008 (or earlier, by arrangement), and will be expected to have a Ph.D., or to have completed one by that date as a condition of taking up the position. Applicants should have a high level of proficiency in the Chinese language and experience of research conditions within China. The salary will be in the range of £26,666 to £28,289 a year (Grade 7 - restricted to the first three points due to funding). The posts are available for a fixed term of two years.

For the further particulars of these posts and how to apply, please see http://www.history.ox.ac.uk/faculty/jobs/index.htm. Applications should be sent by post to the Administrator, History Faculty, The Old Boys' High School, George Street, Oxford, OX1 2RL, or by e-mail to administrator@history.ox.ac.uk. The closing date for applications is noon on 17 December 2007. Interviews are likely to be held in January 2008.
