UNIVERSITY LECTURESHIP IN ISLAMIC ART AND ARCHITECTURE

The University proposes to appoint a University Lecturer in Islamic Art and Architecture with effect from 1 October 2008, filling the post vacated by Dr Julian Raby, now Director of the Freer Gallery of Art and Arthur M. Sackler Gallery, Washington, D.C. The Lecturership will be attached to The Khalili Research Centre and to a Fellowship at Wolfson College.

The successful applicant will be required to lecture and give instruction in Islamic art and architecture. Applications are invited from candidates with experience of teaching in the material and visual culture of Islamic societies from 620 C.E. and who specialize in either architecture or the arts of the book. Candidates should hold, or be in the process of completing, a doctorate in a related field, and be able to provide evidence of published, or soon to be published, research. Candidates should have a proven high ability to teach undergraduates and preferably also to provide graduate supervision. The salary will be in the range of £38,019 to £51,095 a year.
