University Lecturer/Honorary Consultant in Restorative Neurology

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for this post. The successful applicant will be required to participate in teaching and clinical work and to undertake a programme of research. Application will be made to the Addenbrooke's NHS Trust for the award of an Honorary Consultant contract. Appointment will be to the retiring age subject to satisfactory completion of a probationary period. The salary will be on the scale £71,822 to £96,831, according to the level of seniority.

University Lecturer in RNA Viral Diversity and Disease in the Department of Veterinary Medicine

The Department wishes to appoint a Lecturer in RNA Viral Diversity and Disease from 1 March 2008. This post complements the recent appointment of Jonathan Heeney as the new Professor of Comparative Pathology, leading an interdisciplinary programme in RNA virology and immunity with translation through to vaccine development. This new initiative will be integrated within complementary research programmes in the University. The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. Degree; at least three years of postdoctoral research with experience in molecular virology, immunology, and animal models (those of cross-species transmission preferred); a proven track record in research and acquiring research funding. The successful candidate will develop an independent research programme that complements and integrates into the existing viral research programmes; will contribute fully to the didactic teaching of virology; and will participate in administrative duties.

Appointments made at University Lecturer level will be for a probationary period of five years, with appointment to the retiring age thereafter. The pensionable scale of stipends for a University Lecturer is £33,779 to £42,791 a year.

Fixed-Term Lectureship in Turbomachinery in the Department of Engineering

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a Fixed-Term Lectureship in Turbomachinery with particular emphasis in the fields of Aerodynamics and Heat Transfer. The successful candidate will take up the appointment as soon as possible.

The post is based at the Whittle Laboratory, which is one of the world's leading centres for research into the fluid dynamics and thermodynamics of all types of turbomachinery. The laboratory has strong international links and collaborations with industry, government research labs, academic and other research groups. Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) of Japan wishes to strengthen its relationship with the Whittle Laboratory by providing long-term support for teaching and research. This new post is supported by MHI. The successful candidate will be expected to manage and develop the laboratory's research activity with MHI.

The successful candidate will have or be expected to develop a record of world-class research commensurate with the Department's international reputation and top-rank research rating. Teaching responsibilities will include contributing to undergraduate courses, supervising final-year projects, and supervising graduate students.

The appointment will be for five years and the University's probationary scheme will apply in the expectation that MHI will wish to continue its support beyond the five-year fixed term. The current pensionable scale of stipends is in the range of £33,779 to £42,791 a year.
