Director of the Cambridge Commonwealth Trust and Cambridge Overseas Trust: Notice

The Founding Director of the Cambridge Commonwealth Trust and the Cambridge Overseas Trust, Dr Anil Seal, is to retire on 30 September 2008 and the Trustees are seeking his successor. The Trusts are exempt charities, operating independently under the direction of the Trustees who are appointed by the Council of the University of Cambridge. The Director reports to the Trustees through the Executive Committees of the two Trusts.

The Trusts have an annual income of around £10m. They make about 800 new awards each year and provide support to over 1,700 overseas students in residence at the University of Cambridge, the majority of whom are postgraduates.

The Director will be responsible for the running of the Trusts, supported by an experienced team. It will be important to liaise closely with the University and its Departments and Colleges, nurturing effective relationships. Looking forward, the Director will be involved in securing new sources of funding and establishing schemes of awards, as well as shaping the future direction and mission of the Trusts in collaboration with the Trustees and others. A substantial part-time appointment would be considered for a suitable applicant.
