Music Tripos, Part II

With effect from 1 October 2007

The Faculty Board of Music give notice that they have amended the title of Paper 3 of Part II of the Tripos. They have also approved changes to the supplementary regulations in respect of Paper 3 of Part II of the Tripos so that only one composition will be required.

Regulation 16.

By amending the title of Paper 3 so as to read: 'Advanced tonal composition.'

Paper 3. Advanced tonal composition

The detail for this paper has been amended so as to read:

Candidates will be required to submit a portfolio comprising one substantial composition, which should be either an instrumental work in four movements or an extended song cycle. The tonal idiom should be that of the mid to late nineteenth century; the duration of the composition should be between thirty and forty-five minutes. Candidates will be required to submit a recording of the composition on conventional instruments. The composition should be one of the following: string quartet, string quintet, piano trio, piano quartet, piano quintet, sonata for melody instrument and piano, piano sonata, song cycle for voice and piano, work for wind ensemble of between three and five instruments (one of which could be replaced by piano).
