Director of the University Farm

Applications are invited for the office of Director of the University Farm, which will become vacant on 1 December 2007 on the retirement of Mr Eric Allen. The University Farm consists of a commercial farming business of 900 ha, and a potato agronomy research group which operates in Cambridge, Europe, and North America. The majority of the 900 ha is owned by the University and the farming operation is required to provide animals for teaching in the Department of Veterinary Medicine, and to manage the estate in the face of extensive development. It currently has 200 dairy cows and followers, 50 suckler cows, 200 beef cattle, 200 breeding ewes utilizing 300 ha of grassland, and 500 ha of combinable crops and set-aside.

Applicants must be experienced in modern production practices in animal and crop husbandry, current agricultural and environmental legislation, and have demonstrated ability to execute agricultural practice of the highest standard through practical farm management. The successful candidate will contribute to the formulation of the management strategy within a Committee of Management and be responsible for its delivery on a day-to-day basis. The Director reports to the Registrary of the University via the Director of the Estate Management and Building Service.

The appointment will be subject to the Statutes and Ordinances of the University and is permanent, subject to a probationary period of nine months. The stipend for the Director is £49,607 to £57,508 a year, with the initial place on appointment determined according to qualifications and experience.

Administrative Officer (Communications Officer, Education and Policy) in the Office of External Affairs and Communications

The University of Cambridge has just been named Sunday Times University of the Year 2007. Its reputation for outstanding academic achievement is known world-wide and reflects the intellectual achievement of its students, as well as the world-class original research carried out by the staff of the University and the Colleges.

Applications are invited for the post of Communications Officer, Education and Policy, in the Office of External Affairs and Communications. This is a high-profile role responsible for planning and implementing communications strategies on a diverse range of issues. The salary will be in the range of £25,134 to £32,796 a year.

The successful candidate will have experience gained in media, media relations, or public affairs. He/she will be confident, calm under pressure, results-oriented, have outstanding communication skills, and be politically astute. Experience of the higher education sector is desirable but not essential. Head of the 800th Anniversary Year

Fixed-term contract until 2010, based in Cambridge

The University of Cambridge celebrates its 800th Anniversary in 2009. This will be a unique opportunity to communicate its unrivalled contribution to society, nationally and internationally, through an extensive and high profile programme of activities. The celebrations for the 800th Anniversary Year will complement the £1billion fund-raising campaign currently being undertaken by the University and Colleges.

The Anniversary is a one-off chance to turn the spotlight on Cambridge. The new Head will work with the University's 800th Anniversary Committee to plan and implement the programme of activities for 2009 in conjunction with collegiate Cambridge and a range of external partners, including local and national government, the media, alumni, and donors.

The ideal candidate will have considerable experience of designing and running large-scale, national, public events. He/she will have an impressive track record of producing events in a public or corporate environment and will have delivered those events to world-class standards. He/she will need the technical capabilities to deliver large and complex events. In addition, the successful candidate must have empathy with the long-term aims of the University and must be able to work closely with stakeholders across the board. He/she will report to the Director of External Affairs and is accountable to the 800th Anniversary Committee.

This is a senior management post with supervisory responsibility for a team and events agencies, as well as a wider co-ordinating role across the University.
