STIPENDIARY LECTURESHIP IN PHILOSOPHY

Merton College proposes to appoint a stipendiary Lecturer in Philosophy for two terms from 1 January 2008, to teach up to six hours a week. The Lecturer will be paid a stipend of £7,444 with entitlement to join USS and membership of Common Room with the right to take lunches and dinners free of charge.

The successful candidate, who should have completed (or be about to complete) his/her doctoral studies, will be able to teach a number of the following subjects: for the first-year students, Moral Philosophy (in conjunction with Mill's Utilitarianism), General Philosophy (metaphysics and epistemology), and Plato's Meno and Euthyphro; and for second- and third-year students, Ethics, the History of Philosophy from Descartes to Kant, Plato's Republic, Aristotle's Ethics, and the Philosophy of Religion. In addition to his/her teaching duties, the successful candidate will be expected to help with the organization of subjects involving Philosophy within College, and to lend pastoral support to students reading for these degrees.
