PROFESSORSHIP OF MATERIALS MODELLING

Applications are invited for the above post, tenable from 1 January 2008, or such later date as may be arranged. The University seeks to appoint a person with a record of outstanding international excellence in research in materials modelling who, through leadership and the distinction of his or her contribution to the field, will ensure the pursuit of the highest standards in teaching and research in materials modelling at Oxford and its wide recognition outside. The Professorship of Materials Modelling is held in the Department of Materials. A non-stipendiary Fellowship at St Anne's College is attached to the Professorship.

UNIVERSITY LECTURESHIP IN ASSYRIOLOGY

The University proposes to appoint a University Lecturer in Assyriology in association with Wolfson College. The appointment will run from l January 2008 or as soon as possible thereafter. Applicants should hold, or expect to hold by the start of the appointment, a doctorate in the field of Assyriology, and be able to provide evidence of their ability to teach Assyriology at university level. The successful candidate will have a primary expertise in Assyriology, and will be required to give lectures, classes, and tutorials in Assyriology, including Akkadian and Sumerian language and texts, and courses on civilization and general culture of the Ancient Near East, to co-ordinate teaching at all levels, to carry out research, examine, supervise graduate students, and to play a part in the administrative work of the Faculty of Oriental Studies. The salary will be in the range of £38,019 to £51,095.

CAREER DEVELOPMENT FELLOWSHIP IN CLASSICAL ARABIC

A fixed-term research and teaching appointment in Classical Arabic is available from 1 October 2007 for one year. This initiative is designed to provide an intensive and supported career development opportunity for an outstanding academic at an early stage in his/her career, and to promote equality of opportunity by helping to create a more diverse pool of potential candidates for future academic posts at Oxford or elsewhere.

The University especially welcomes applications from women and ethnic minorities, who are under-represented among its academic staff (section 38 of the Sex Discrimination Act 1975 and section 48 of the Race Relations Act 1976 apply).

The Fellowship is tenable in the Faculty of Oriental Studies, and is in Classical Arabic. The post will be offered in association with Pembroke College. Career Development Fellows are offered the opportunity to develop their expertise in both research and teaching. They will also have an academic mentor as well as a personalized career and professional development package, including the opportunity to undertake the University's postgraduate diploma in learning and teaching. The salary will be in the range of £25,889 to £31,840 a year (University Grade 7).
