The Committee of Management for the Natural Sciences Tripos give notice of the following additional interdisciplinary papers, which shall be included in the examination requirements of one or more subjects.
Title of Paper | Mode of Assesment | May be offered in |
IDP-1 Atmospheric chemistry and global change | One-hour written examination | Chemistry; Experimental and Theoretical Physics; Geological Sciences |
IDP-2 Climate change | One-hour written examination | Chemistry; Experimental and Theoretical Physics; Geological Sciences |
IDP-3 Renewable energy | One-hour written examination | Chemistry; Experimental and Theoretical Physics; Geological Sciences |
Notwithstanding the examination requirements set out in Regulation 36 of the Natural Sciences Tripos, the following amendments shall apply to candidates offering interdisciplinary papers:
Candidates may offer up to two of the interdisciplinary papers listed above, but may not offer both Atmospheric chemistry and global change and Climate change.
Candidates shall have less time to complete their other scheduled examination papers, such that, for each interdisciplinary paper offered:
Each interdisciplinary paper shall be offered in place of one Minor Topic or equivalent work.
Candidates may not offer both Atmospheric chemistry and global change and Climate change.
All candidates must offer three Minor Topics in total (to include interdisciplinary papers, a Long Vacation Project, and Entrepreneurship, each of which is equivalent to one Minor Topic when offered, and Advanced quantum field theory from Part III of the Mathematics Tripos, which is equivalent to two Minor Topics when offered).
Candidates may offer Climate change and/or Renewable energy of the interdisciplinary papers listed above.
If a candidate offers Climate change, Paper 2 shall be of two hours' duration.
If a candidate offers Renewable energy, Papers 2 and 3 shall each be of two hours' duration. The candidate will additionally offer a literature review, of no more than 5,000 words.
If a candidate offers both Climate change and Renewable energy interdisciplinary papers, Papers 2 and 3 shall each be of two hours' duration. The candidate will additionally offer a literature review, of no more than 5,000 words.
The literature review will be on a topic which may be either proposed by the candidate and approved by the Head of Department, or chosen by the candidate from a list of approved topics announced by the Head of Department by the beginning of the Lent Term.
