Professorship of Cancer Therapeutics: Notice

The Board of Electors to the Professorship of Cancer Therapeutics invite applications for this Professorship from persons whose work falls within the general field of clinical cancer therapeutics. It is expected that the Board will be in a position to make an election with effect from 1 November 2007 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The annual pensionable stipend for a Professor with clinical responsibilities is on a scale from £71,822 to £96,831 at a point determined by level of seniority.

The appointment will be subject to the Statutes and Ordinances of the University.

Cambridge is recognized as being internationally excellent in the underpinning laboratory science of cancer: this research excellence has been greatly strengthened by the opening this year of the Cancer Research UK (CRUK) Cambridge Research Institute (CRI). CRUK and the University now wish to further develop clinical oncology to facilitate the translation of research from the laboratory into clinical trials and practice. The Professorship has been established to provide academic leadership of this activity in relation to phase 1 trials, and to manage a substantial team of research nurses, data managers, and clinical and administrative staff.

Further information may be obtained from the Academic Secretary, University Offices, The Old Schools, Cambridge, CB2 1TT (e-mail ibise@admin.cam.ac.uk), to whom a letter of application should be sent, together with details of current and future research plans, a curriculum vitae, a publications list, and a completed form PD18 with details of two referees, so as to reach him no later than 31 October 2007.

Informal enquiries may be made to Professor Bruce Ponder, FRS, Li Ka Shing Professor of Oncology, Head of the University Department of Oncology and Director of the CRUK CRI (e-mail Bruce.Ponder@cancer.org.uk).

The University values diversity and is committed to equality of opportunity.
