CÉSAR MILSTEIN PROFESSORSHIP OF CANCER CELL BIOLOGY

Applications are invited for the above endowed Chair, to be held at the Sir William Dunn School of Pathology, and tenable from as soon as may be arranged. The successful candidate will have demonstrated a capacity or potential for senior academic leadership in the area of cancer cell molecular biology. He or she will be able to show evidence of management skills, an impressive publication record, and an ability to raise extensive research grant income. Applications are welcomed from scientists with a strong interest in basic mechanisms underlying cancer development and progression.

A non-stipendiary Fellowship at Lincoln College is attached to the Professorship.

PROFESSORSHIP OF SOCIAL ANTHROPOLOGY

The University proposes to make an appointment to a Professorship of Social Anthropology, tenable from 1 October 2008. The post will be held in the Institute of Social and Cultural Anthropology (within the School of Anthropology and Museum Ethnography).

The Institute of Social and Cultural Anthropology (ISCA) is a leading centre for anthropological teaching and research in the UK and the world. Research in ISCA is particularly broad based, including not only traditional ethnographic specialisms in social anthropology, but also thematic specialisms such as visual anthropology, material anthropology and museum ethnography, medical anthropology, and cognitive and evolutionary anthropology.

Applications are sought from suitable candidates across the full range of ethnographic regions and specialisms. Commitment to comparative study of the world's cultures and civilizations is expected, as evidenced in publications of the highest order. The Professor will be expected to engage in research and to lecture and give instruction in social anthropology. He or she will have experience of teaching at undergraduate and graduate level, and of supervising higher-level research.

HEADSHIP OF THE MEDICAL SCIENCES DIVISION

Applications are invited for the Headship of the Medical Sciences Division, tenable from 1 October 2008. The Medical Sciences Division includes the clinical and preclinical departments of the Medical School, plus Experimental Psychology and Biochemistry (see http://www.medsci.ox.ac.uk/). The division is one of the major centres for clinical and basic biomedical research in Europe. The Head of Division is responsible for the management and academic leadership of the division. Both clinical and non-clinical candidates with appropriate academic standing will be considered and there may be some scope for the appointee to continue to pursue his/her personal research interests. The role provides an opportunity for a candidate with outstanding managerial and leadership skills to make a major contribution to the further development of the medical sciences at Oxford.
