STIPENDIARY LECTURESHIP IN PHILOSOPHY

Applications are invited for a six-hour fixed-term stipendiary Lectureship in Philosophy, to provide cover during the 2007-08 academical year while Dr T. W. Child will be on research leave.

Candidates must be able to provide teaching for the following subjects: General Philosophy (for first-year students); Ethics, and History of Philosophy from Descartes to Kant (for second- and third-year students). In addition, it may be an advantage to be able to teach one or more further subjects from the list of options available to second- and third-year students. (See http://www.philosophy.ox.ac.uk/misc/undergrad/general_syllabus.shtml for details of the first-year General Philosophy syllabus, and http://www.philosophy.ox.ac.uk/Course_Descriptions.shtml for details of all second- and third-year subjects.) Applicants are asked to provide details of the second- and third-year subjects which they have already taught, and of those which they would be able and willing to teach. Applicants are also asked to indicate on their application whether they would be available for an interview in late July or in August.

The post is for a fixed period of one year from 15 September 2007. The salary will be on the Senior Tutors' stipendiary lecturers scale, which on 1 August will rise to £11,166 to £12,567 (depending on experience) for a six-hour stint. In addition to teaching six hours a week averaged over the three eight-week terms of the year, the Lecturer will be expected to participate in undergraduate admissions, and be responsible, jointly with Professor Arntzenius, for the organization of the subject and for the provision of pastoral care and the academic welfare of the College's students reading Philosophy.

The Lecturer will have a share of a teaching room in College and will be entitled to lunch and dinner free of charge in College throughout the year when the kitchens are open, and to a number of other benefits.
