Notice of benefactions

9 July 2007

The Vice-Chancellor gives notice that she has received with gratitude the following benefactions:

(a) a benefaction of £2m from the Trustees of the Cambridge University Medical School Charity, a Trust established in Hong Kong in 1993 (see the Vice-Chancellor's Notice in Reporter, 1993-94, p. 366). The benefaction is to be used to create two funds: one to support the work of the School of Clinical Medicine's Institute of Public Health and one to further the clinical, educational, and research needs of the School generally;

(b) a benefaction of £100,000 from Mrs Wendy Whitmore in memory of her husband Dr Timothy Charles Whitmore, formerly of St John's College and the Department of Geography, to support graduate students in the Departments of Geography and Zoology who are working in the fields of conservation and sustainable development.

The Council is submitting Graces to the Regent House (Graces 1 and 2, pp. 832 and 833) for the approval of regulations to govern the proposed Cambridge University Medical School Funds and the Tim Whitmore Geography and Zoology Funds.
