Centres of African Studies, International Studies, and Latin-American Studies: Notice

The General Board have accepted a recommendation from the Council of the School of the Humanities and Social Sciences that the Centres of African Studies, International Studies, and Latin-American Studies should be formally incorporated as institutions within the School. At present, although these Centres are not formally assigned to any School, it has been the practice of the central bodies of the University to include them within the School of the Humanities and Social Sciences' purview for the purposes of resource management and personnel matters. Furthermore the Council of the School has included all three Centres in its strategic plan and values their academic contribution to both the School and the University. The Council of the School has agreed that the Directors of the Centres should become members of the Council, ex officio. The Management Committees of the three Centres have been consulted and have agreed with proposals to change their regulations to include them as institutions within the School.

The Council has accepted the General Board's recommendation that a Grace be submitted to the Regent House to approve the necessary changes to the regulations for the School of the Humanities and Social Sciences and is accordingly submitting a Grace (Grace 1, p. 727) for the approval of these amendments. Subject to the approval of the Grace the regulations for the three Centres will be amended as set out in the Schedule below.
