COLLEGE LECTURESHIP AND FELLOWSHIP IN MODERN HISTORY

The College Council is seeking to appoint a committed teacher and active researcher to a College Lectureship in Modern History with effect from 1 October 2007, or as soon as possible thereafter. This appointment has been instituted to ensure the continuity of research and teaching in History within the College. Applications are invited from suitably qualified historians with significant research and teaching experience in Modern British and/or European History since 1500. The person appointed will be expected to undertake College teaching for twelve hours a week during term and to assume a shared responsibility for the Direction of Studies in History.

The post is a fixed-term appointment for a period of five years, with the possibility of renewal. Renewal of the post will be in accordance with the College's Code of Practice (which is available on request). The initial stipend will be on a scale ranging from point 39 to point 45 on the University's single salary spine (£25,134 to £30,012, correct as at 1 August 2007). Salary progression within this range is discretionary. The position is pensionable under the Universities' Superannuation Scheme.

The successful candidate will be a member of the Governing Body of the College. (S)he will have a teaching room in College and will enjoy the usual amenities of a Fellowship. Residential accommodation may be available in College.

Applications (six copies) should comprise: a completed application form, downloadable from the College website or obtainable from Lucy Hodge; a curriculum vitae giving full name and contact details, together with full details of the applicant's educational and career history; details of present appointment and an indication of the date when the applicant would be free to take up the Lectureship; a brief account of the applicant's original research work to date and a full list of publications (copies of which may be requested by the College); a statement of the research the applicant would wish to undertake and any comments on opportunities to collaborate within the University; the names and contact details of three referees who will be providing references, and who should be asked by the candidate to submit references directly to the Master by the closing date.
