Examination in Biological Anthropology for the degree of Master of Philosophy

With effect from 1 October 2007

Option D (Human population biology) in this examination has been rescinded. The regulations have been amended so as to read:

Biological Anthropology

1. The scheme of examination for the one-year course of study in Biological Anthropology for the degree of Master of Philosophy shall consist, at the choice of the candidate, of one of the three following Options A to C:

Option A: Human evolution

Option B: Primate molecular ecology

Option C: Human population biology

2. The assessed work for each option shall consist of (i) a thesis of not more than 20,000 words, excluding footnotes, appendices, and bibliography, but including figures and tables, on a subject approved by the Degree Committee for the Faculty of Archaeology and Anthropology; (ii) five pieces of submitted work, none of which may exceed 4,000 words, on a topic and in a format to be approved by the Degree Committee.

3. At the discretion of the Examiners, the examination may include an oral examination on the thesis, the general field of knowledge within which it falls, and the other work submitted as part of the examination.
