University Lectureship/Senior Lectureship in Veterinary Diagnostic Pathology in the Department of Veterinary Medicine

Applications are invited for a University Lectureship/Senior Lectureship in Veterinary Diagnostic Pathology in the Department of Veterinary Medicine, with effect from 1 October 2007. The post-holder will be responsible for teaching undergraduates in the area of veterinary pathology, including gross morbid anatomy and histopathology. He/she will contribute to the training of clinical training scholars and will assist with the provision of pathological diagnostic work within the Queen's Veterinary School Hospital and for the ambulatory farm animal and equine clinical service; this assistance may include occasional out-of-hours emergency work. The Lecturer will be expected to develop a research programme in an appropriate area of interest: the Department provides an active research environment, with proactive support systems for research.

Candidates should have a veterinary degree registrable with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, and experience in veterinary diagnostic pathology, both necropsy and surgical biopsy work in all the common domestic species. Membership of the Royal College of Pathologists, the European College of Veterinary Pathologists, or the American College of Veterinary Pathologists is essential. A Ph.D. Degree in a related area and a proven track record in research are desirable.

Appointments made at University Lecturer level will be for a probationary period of five years, with appointment to the retiring age thereafter. The pensionable scale of stipends for a University Lecturer is currently £32,795 to £41,544 a year and, from 1 August 2007, will be £33,779 to £42,791 a year. The pensionable scale of stipends for a University Senior Lecturer is currently £44,074 to £46,758 a year and, from 1 August 2007, will be £45,397 to £48,161 a year.

Computer Officer (Software Systems Development Manager) in the Department of Engineering

The IT Services Division of the Department of Engineering wishes to appoint a senior computer professional to lead the development of software systems to support the Department's administration, teaching, and research.

The successful candidate will have a history of completing challenging software development projects, including hands-on specification, design, implementation, and development of complex systems, as well as project management and co-ordination. The post-holder will have responsibility for the full development cycle, from initial technical and financial feasibility assessment, requirements gathering, and user interface design through planning and implementation to training, delivery, and in-service maintenance.

Currently, the principal requirement is to provide web-based interfaces to administrative databases and user services on Linux servers, normally using Open Source Software. The post-holder will also maintain and develop similar existing internally developed software. Some projects may also involve the use of other platforms and interfaces.

The successful candidate will take up the appointment as soon as possible. Appointment will be to the retiring age subject to satisfactory performance of a nine-month probationary period. This is a grade 9 post for which the current pensionable scale of stipends is in the range of £32,795 to £41,544 a year.

Computer Officer (Senior Technologist) in the School of Clinical Medicine

The Clinical School IT Support Service wishes to appoint a Computer Officer (Senior Technologist) to be responsible for the management and development of the Clinical School's VLE - ERWeb.

The successful candidate will be a computing professional with a good degree or equivalent qualification, and will have an established track record in database administration, web development, and experience of managing teams of highly technical staff. He/she will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills as he/she will need to present complex technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Experience in the installation, configuration, maintenance, security, and operation of MS Windows and SQL Servers is essential, as is a good working knowledge of writing and tuning complex SQL queries and stored procedures and creating web applications with ASP and ADO. The salary will be in the range of £29,138 to £39,160, with the possibility of progression on contribution once in post to £42,791.

Learning Technologist in the School of Clinical Medicine

The Clinical School IT Support Service wishes to appoint a Learning Technologist to join a small team which develops and supports the VLE used by the School students, and by medical and academic staff.

The post-holder will be expected to assist in the development of the School's VLE, which delivers high quality e-learning material, by creating and improving the e-learning content and by implementing development projects to improve the interface. He/she will also be expected to keep abreast of the latest technological developments to ensure that the VLE remains innovative.

The successful candidate will be educated to degree level and have an advanced standard of IT and web skills. Experience of producing computer-based learning materials within a Higher Education setting is desirable. The salary will be in the range of £24,402 to £31,840, with the possibility of progression on contribution once in post to £35,836.

Two unestablished Computer Officers in the School of Clinical Medicine

Applications are invited for two posts within the Clinical School IT Support Service. The post-holders will be working within a team providing IT support for specific groups of University Departments based at the Addenbrooke's site and will need excellent communication and interpersonal skills. The duties will include supporting a range of computer hardware and software running under Windows 2000/XP, Vista, and Mac OS X. Knowledge of Microsoft Office and related software running under Windows XP Pro and some experience of Mac OS X is also required. The post-holders will take part in the IT Support Helpdesk rota and assist in development work such as setting up and testing new services and servers.

The salary will be in the range of £23,002 to £26,666, with the possibility of progression on contribution once in post to £31,840. Appointment will be for three years in the first instance.
