David Crighton Fellowships: Notice

The Managers of the David Crighton Fund are pleased to announce the winners of the David Crighton Fellowships for 2007. These Fellowships have been established to enable young researchers in the late Professor Crighton's areas of interest to undertake up to three months' study and research with a suitable host in Cambridge (or elsewhere, if they are already in Cambridge).

The 2007 David Crighton Fellows are:

Mr Mohammed Afsar, of the Department of Engineering, to work with Dr Marvin E. Goldstein at National Aeronautics and Space Administration, Langley, on 'Wave propagation: high frequency Asymptotic field using complex ray theory'.

Dr Silas Alben, of Harvard University, to work with Professor Raymond Goldstein in the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics on 'Bacterial stir bars and the hydrodynamics of quorum sensing'.

Dr Christopher Heaton, of the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics, to work with Professor Peter Schmid at the Ecole Polytechnique in Paris on 'The effect of transient mechanisms in the hydrodynamic instability of the Batchelor vortex'.

Mr Krzysztof Mizerski, of Warsaw University, to work with Professor Keith Moffatt in the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics on 'Aspects of elliptical instability'.
