University Lecturer in Zoonotic Viral Diseases and Vaccinology in the Department of Veterinary Medicine

The Department of Veterinary Medicine wishes to appoint a University Lecturer in Zoonotic Viral Diseases and Vaccinology from 1 October 2007, who will join and complement an interdisciplinary programme in RNA virology and immunity with translation through to vaccine development. The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. Degree; at least three years of postdoctoral research with experience in molecular virology, immunology, and animal models (those of cross-species transmission preferred); and a proven track record in research. The successful candidate will develop an independent research programme that complements and integrates into the existing research programmes; will contribute fully to the didactic teaching of virology; and will participate in administrative duties.

Appointments made at University Lecturer level will be for a probationary period of five years, with appointment to the retiring age thereafter. The pensionable scale of stipends for a University Lecturer is currently £32,795 to £41,544 a year and, from 1 August 2007, will be £33,779 to £42,791 a year.

Clinical Lecturer/Specialist Registrar in Clinical Genetics

Applications are invited for the post of Clinical Lecturer/Specialist Registrar in Clinical Genetics in the Department of Medical Genetics. The post offers trainees of outstanding academic potential an excellent research and clinical environment to advance their academic career. Applicants should have MRCP (UK) or equivalent qualification, a Ph.D. or M.D. Degree, suitable clinical experience to be eligible for an honorary NHS contract as a Specialist Registrar in Clinical Genetics, and preferably some experience of clinical genetics to count towards specialist training. The successful candidate will be required to undertake research, clinical duties, and some teaching. The appointment will be for four years with the possibility of reappointment for a further two years. The salary will be in the range of £29,364 to £50,972 a year.

Administrative Officer in the Academic Division of the University Offices

Applications are invited for the post of Administrative Officer in the Academic Division of the University Offices. The post-holder will be a member of the Planning and Resource Allocation Office, supporting the management of resources across the University.

The successful candidate will be educated to degree level and have previous relevant experience in an administrative post, preferably in a higher education establishment. Appointment will be to the retiring age subject to the satisfactory completion of a probationary period. The salary will be in the range of £24,402 to £31,840 a year.

Temporary Lectureship in the Faculty of Philosophy

The Faculty of Philosophy is seeking to appoint a Temporary Lecturer in Philosophy from 1 October 2007 for two years. The successful candidate must be able to take up the appointment on 1 October 2007.

This vacancy presents an excellent opportunity, particularly for an early career scholar, to gain teaching experience and research support within a top-ranked philosophy department. The successful candidate's research specialty may be in any area of Philosophy. He/she will contribute to the Faculty's teaching programme. The ability to teach some Ancient Philosophy at undergraduate and M.Phil. level would be an advantage and there will also be opportunities to teach in other areas. The successful candidate will be required to give 40 lectures a year, to supervise graduate students, and to examine at both undergraduate and graduate level. The salary will be in the range of £32,795 to £41,544 a year.

Isaac Newton Trust College Teaching Officer in the Faculty of Economics

In association with the Isaac Newton Trust, the Faculty of Economics wishes to appoint a Newton Trust College Teaching Officer in Economics for five years from 1 October 2007. The successful candidate will be expected to offer teaching of interest to students studying Economics, particularly within the area of development economics.

Under the terms of the scheme, Newton Trust College Teaching Officers must be Fellows of Colleges who are non-University Teaching Officers but receive their prime stipend from their College for teaching undergraduates. A Newton Trust CTO is appointed as an Affiliated Lecturer and is expected to give 24 lectures a year in the Faculty, to examine, to supervise Research Students, and to be involved in Faculty teaching arrangements. Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Department of Anglo-Saxon, Norse, and Celtic

The University of Cambridge, in association with Kings College London and the Arts and Humanities Research Council, is seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Associate to work on the Prosopography of Anglo-Saxon England project from 1 September 2007 to 31 July 2008. Information about the project is accessible at http://www.pase.ac.uk/; the researcher would be engaged in gathering and processing data relating to the period 1042-1100, and in gathering and processing data from late eleventh- and twelfth-century sources relating to the Anglo-Saxon period as a whole. Applications from candidates at an early stage in their academic career are particularly encouraged, but candidates must have completed a Ph.D. Degree before September 2007. The salary will be in the range of £24,402 to £31,840 a year.
