PROFESSORSHIP OF PHYSICAL GEOGRAPHY

Applications are invited for the above post, tenable from 1 January 2008 or as soon as possible thereafter. The Professorship will be held in the School of Geography, Oxford University Centre for the Environment (OUCE), and is attached to a non-stipendiary Fellowship at St Hilda's College.

The University is seeking an outstanding scholar, with an international reputation for research in one or both of the substantive fields of biogeography and climate change. The Professor will be expected to engage in research and to lecture and give instruction in one of both of these fields. He or she will be able to provide academic leadership and to demonstrate teaching excellence at undergraduate and graduate level. The successful candidate will have a successful record of obtaining research funding and the ability to manage a substantial research team.

IRISH GOVERNMENT SENIOR SCHOLARSHIP IN THE HISTORY AND CULTURE OF IRELAND

The Scholarship is attached to Hertford College, under the aegis of the Carroll Professor of Irish History, and is tenable for one year from 1 October 2007. Preference will be given to candidates who have recently been awarded a postgraduate degree and wish to develop their work further or initiate a new project, but those in the final stages of a postgraduate degree will not be excluded, particularly if they have a special reason to study at Oxford.

The Irish Government Scholar, who will be a member of the Hertford MCR, will receive accommodation, a maintenance grant, appropriate SCR dining rights, and fees where applicable. Limited teaching may be available.
