FELLOWSHIP AND COLLEGE LECTURESHIP IN EITHER EXTRA-EUROPEAN OR MODERN BRITISH HISTORY

Peterhouse invites applications for a Fellowship and College Lectureship in either extra-European or modern British History. The duties will include 120 hours of teaching (an average of six hours a week during the teaching weeks of the year), direction of studies, and the interviewing of applicants for undergraduate admission. A Fellow is expected to be engaged in research of a high academic standard. Sabbatical leave may be taken for up to one term in seven.

The starting salary will be £23,107 a year, which it may be possible to enhance by accepting further responsibilities. Other benefits include a research allowance of £1,053 a year, an entertainment allowance, and seven free meals a week at the Common Table. Accommodation, free of charge, is normally provided to Fellows who are single. The appointment is for five years from 1 October 2007, subject to a probationary review after three years.

The successful candidate will be able to teach two or more papers from those currently specified in the Cambridge Historical Tripos that fall either within the field of extra-European history (currently Papers 21, 22, 23, 24 in Part I and Papers 25, 26, 28, 29 in Part II) or within the field of modern British history (post-1800) (currently Papers 5, 6, 10, 11 in Part I and Paper 21 in Part II).
