Report of the General Board on the re-establishment of the MRC Professorship of Behavioural Neurology

The GENERAL BOARD beg leave to report to the University as follows:

1. In their Report on the establishment of certain fixed-term Professorships and Readerships (Reporter, 2000-01, p. 814), the General Board proposed, inter alia, the establishment of an MRC Professorship of Behavioural Neurology in the Department of Medicine for Professor J. R. Hodges for the period 1 October 2001 to 31 March 2007. The Professorship was established for a fixed term to coincide with the availability of external funds supporting the MRC Research Professorship held by Professor Hodges. The recommendations of this Report were approved by Grace 8 of 25 July 2001. The Professorship was reassigned to the Department of Clinical Neurosciences by Grace 4 of 10 December 2003.

2. The Medical Research Council have renewed the funding for Professor Hodges's Research Professorship for a further period to 31 May 2008. The School of Clinical Medicine have agreed to meet the cost of the Professorship for the remainder of Professor Hodges's tenure, for the period from 1 June 2008 to 30 September 2019, in the event that his MRC funding is not further renewed.

3. The General Board accordingly recommend the re-establishment of the MRC Professorship of Behavioural Neurology in the Department of Clinical Neurosciences from 1 April 2007 for the duration of Professor Hodges's tenure.

4. The General Board recommend:

That the MRC Professorship of Behavioural Neurology, established by Grace 8 of 25 July 2001, be re-established from 1 April 2007 for the tenure of Professor John Russell Hodges, placed in Schedule B of the Statutes, and assigned to the Department of Clinical Neurosciences.
