University Lecturers

Appointments made at University Lecturer level will be for a probationary period of five years, with appointment to the retiring age thereafter. The pensionable scale of stipends for a University Lecturer is currently £32,795 to £41,544 a year and, from 1 August 2007, will be £33,779 to £42,791 a year.

University Lectureship in the Department of Chemical Engineering

The Department of Chemical Engineering seeks to appoint a Lecturer to work at the interface of bio-science and chemical engineering. Applications are particularly welcomed from researchers in the fields of bio-product design, bio-pharmaceuticals, or systems biology. It is hoped that the appointment will strengthen collaborative research activities between the Department of Chemical Engineering and the Institute of Biotechnology in Cambridge, and the developing interests of these institutions in applying chemical engineering and biotechnology to the healthcare sector.

The successful candidate will have, or will be expected to develop, a record of world-class research commensurate with the Department's international standing and research reputation. Teaching responsibilities will include contributing to all aspects of undergraduate courses and supervising graduate students. The successful candidate will be expected to take up appointment on 1 September 2007, or thereabouts.

Two University Lectureships in Judge Business School

Judge Business School invites applications for a University Lectureship in Business Finance and Financial Reporting and a University Lectureship in Human Resources Management and Organizational Behaviour. Appointment will be from 1 September 2007 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Successful candidates will have a Ph.D. Degree in a relevant subject and be able to provide clear evidence of intellectual excellence and the potential to establish a publications record in the leading journals in the field. Experience of teaching at undergraduate, postgraduate, or post-experience levels is desirable.

Senior Assistant Registrary (Head of Human Resources) in the Unified Administrative Service

The Shared Services Office in the Unified Administrative Service (UAS) at the University of Cambridge will begin life in September 2007. It will include a brand new HR team, created to bring together, streamline, and modernize existing HR administrative and recruitment practices across the UAS and to 'add value' at management level with high quality advice and guidance on all HR issues, supporting the development of a business culture at a senior level in the UAS.

This is an interesting and challenging new role which calls for a strong HR generalist with first-class influencing and interpersonal skills, sound leadership and management credentials, and the proven ability to resolve issues and implement change in a manner appropriate to the broader organizational context. The successful candidate will be a well-rounded professional, whose first challenge will be to establish the new team, drive the implementation of a new operational HR service to the managers and staff within the various Divisions and institutions that form part of the UAS, and develop the provision of strategic information and HR advice to the UAS Directors. Experience of implementing new HR services and systems would be advantageous.

The post-holder will have professional links with the University's Personnel Division that will provide the framework of HR policies, procedures, and practices, and be a source of support and advice on specialist areas such as diversity, pensions, and occupational health. The salary will be in the range of £44,074 to £46,758 a year.

It will include a new Finance team, created to bring together, streamline, and modernize existing financial practices, strengthen the financial planning across the UAS, and provide high quality advice and information to senior management, supporting the development of a business culture across the UAS.

This is a wide ranging and challenging new role which requires an experienced qualified accountant with first-class interpersonal skills, sound leadership and management credentials, and the proven ability to provide effective financial advice to senior management. Experience of budget planning and management reporting, coupled with the drive to implement a new operational Finance service to the managers and staff of the UAS, is required.

The post-holder will have a strong relationship with the University's Finance Division, which will provide the financial framework in respect of policies, procedures and practices, and professional support. The salary will be in the range of £44,074 to £46,758 a year.

Temporary Lectureship in Classics (Ancient History) in the Faculty of Classics

The Faculty of Classics is seeking to appoint to a Temporary Lectureship in Ancient History from either 1 October 2007 or 1 January 2008 for twelve months. This vacancy presents an excellent opportunity, particularly for an early career scholar, to gain teaching experience and research support within a major centre for the study of ancient history in the UK. The successful applicant will benefit from the world-class facilities offered by the University and the generous support of research and teaching provided by the Faculty. The Faculty currently teaches approximately 250 undergraduates reading Classics (all of whom study both Greek and Latin language to degree level) and almost 100 graduate students (reading for Master's and doctoral degrees). It is one of the leading international centres in Classics, with some 40 teachers in Faculty and College posts. The successful candidate will be a member of the Faculty of Classics and will be expected to play a full role in the teaching of Ancient History. The salary will be in the range of £32,795 to £41,544 a year.
