Applications are invited for the above post, tenable from 1 September 2007, or such later date as may be arranged. A non-stipendiary Fellowship at Lady Margaret Hall is attached to the Professorship.

The Rolls-Royce/Royal Academy of Engineering Professorship of Computational Aerothermal Engineering is held in the Department of Engineering Science, one of the largest unified engineering departments in the UK. The University seeks to appoint a world-class engineer who will make significant advances in our understanding and ability to calculate complex flows and heat transfer, and will also take aerothermal modelling into new areas. The person appointed will have a record of internationally esteemed research at the interface of experimental thermo-fluid dynamics and Computational Fluid Dynamics in aspects of engineering science important to turbomachinery, especially heat transfer and fluid flow. Through leadership and the distinction of his or her contribution to the field, the Professor will ensure the continuing pursuit of excellence in teaching and research in this field at Oxford and its wide recognition outside.

Further particulars, including details of how to apply, are available from http://www.admin.ox.ac.uk/fp/, or from the Registrar, University Offices, Wellington Square, Oxford, OX1 2JD (tel. 01865 270200). The closing date for applications is 21 May 2007.

PEARSON PROFESSORSHIP OF EDUCATIONAL ASSESSMENT AND DIRECTORSHIP OF THE OXFORD CENTRE FOR EDUCATIONAL ASSESSMENT

Applications are invited for the above post, tenable from 1 September 2007 or as soon as possible thereafter, which has been established following the generous donation from Pearson PLC to establish the Oxford Centre for Educational Assessment. The Professorship will be held in the Department of Education (http://www.edstud.ox.ac.uk/) and is attached to a non-stipendiary Professorial Fellowship at St Anne's College.

The University is seeking to appoint a scholar of international standing to this professorial post as the first Director for the newly established Centre for Educational Assessment (OCEA). He or she will be a scholar of international distinction in the education field, and more specifically educational assessment. He or she will have a record of research, publication, and teaching in the field together with a commitment and drive to establish, promote, and lead the OCEA.

The OCEA has been established with the generous support of Pearson PLC with funding for ten years in the first instance, and with a performance review after three years. Funds cover the establishment costs for the Centre including administrative support, infrastructure costs, and support for two doctoral studentships. In addition, Pearson PLC is committed to funding a substantial rolling programme of specific research projects within the Centre.

The Directorship role requires that the Professor provide research, academic, and strategic leadership for the Centre. He or she will be able to provide research leadership and facilitation, having already established a strong track record in attracting and managing major research grants and also demonstrated a commitment to teaching excellence at the graduate level. This will be a senior management position in the Department with a remit not only to lead the OCEA but also the development of this field of study in the Department more generally.
