The Queen's College

LECTURESHIP IN GERMAN

The Governing Body proposes, if a suitable candidate presents himself or herself, to elect a Fixed-Term Stipendiary Lecturer in German for one year only with effect from October 2007 (during Dr Louth's absence on research leave).

The Lecturer will be required to teach twelve hours a week during term for the College, or for other Colleges either under an exchange arrangement or in return for tuition fees to be remitted to the College.

The Lecturer will be expected to teach language classes at first-, second-, and final-year level, plus literature tutorials for the Preliminary (first-year) Examination and for the following papers in the Final Honour School: Paper VIII (Modern German Literature: 1730 to the present) and Paper X (Prescribed Authors: from among Goethe, Schiller, Hölderlin, Kleist, Hoffmann, Heine, Rilke, Mann, Kafka, Brecht, Grass, Wolf, Sebald, Jelinek). He or she may be called on to take part in the admissions exercise and internal examinations for the College and will be expected to share in the general arrangements of tuition for undergraduates.

The basic stipend will be on a scale starting at £21,863 a year (under review) and the Lecturer will be entitled either to accommodation in College, or to a teaching room and a housing allowance in lieu, and to free lunch and dinner at the Common Table. Other allowances may also be available. Where appropriate, the Lecturer will be placed on the USS.
