form and conduct of examinations, 2006-07: notice

Notices by Faculty Boards, or other bodies concerned, of changes to the form and conduct of certain examinations to be held in 2006-07, by comparison with those examinations in 2006, are published below. Complete details of the form and conduct of all examinations are available from the Faculties or Departments concerned.

Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery, Final M.B. Examination, 2007

The Faculty Board of Clinical Medicine give notice that, with effect from the examinations to be held in 2007, the form and conduct of the examinations for the Final M.B. Examinations will be changed since the last sitting as follows:

Part I

The examination is concerned with the application to human disease of the principles of pathology. It covers morphological, laboratory, and clinical aspects of pathology, including histopathology, haematology, microbiology, chemical pathology, immunology, and genetics.

The examination is in three parts. The multiple-choice questionnaire paper shall be of two hours in length and shall consist of a mixture of five-option single response, true/false, and extended matching questions. The other two parts of the examination, including the essay paper and the practical data interpretation paper, remain unchanged.

Candidates may be invited to attend a viva voce examination. This will not contribute directly to the total marks for the examination: students who have achieved a high standard in the written and practical papers will be invited to attend to give them an opportunity for a distinction award.

Full details of the examination can be found by following the appropriate links from http://www.medschl.cam.ac.uk/intranet/students/finalmb/finalmb2003.html.

The Faculty Board are satisfied that no students will be disadvantaged by the late publication of this Notice.
