Assistant Registrary (Academic Staff Development Officer) in the Staff Development Section of the Personnel Division

Applications are invited for the post of Academic Staff Development Officer in the Staff Development Section of the Personnel Division. Working closely with the Assistant Director, the post-holder will lead, manage, and plan the development and delivery of provision for academic staff development. He/she will manage a team of approximately ten staff, to ensure the development needs of individuals are identified and supported in line with the performance needs of the University. The post-holder will be responsible for bidding for external grants and his/her excellent communication skills will enable him/her to represent the University on external committees and forums to advance the provision of academic staff development. Applicants should be qualified to degree level with experience in a professional training and development role. A Ph.D. would be desirable; experience of working in Higher Education, including research, teaching, and project management, is essential. The salary will be in the range of £32,795 to £41,544 a year.

The successful candidate will be an experienced manager and able to guide, motivate, and enhance the work of the team. Above all, he/she will be passionate about the benefits staff development can bring and willing to play an active part in the development of provision and the overall work of the Personnel Division within the University.

Computer Officer (Development Group Manager) in the University Computing Service

The University Computing Service is forming a small team of software developers to work on a variety of projects, both service-based and internal, and seeks to recruit an experienced developer to lead this group, which will consist of a mixture of permanent staff and short-term contractors.

Most but not all development will be on Unix based platforms, but applicants should have experience in more than one development environment and platform. The majority of projects are anticipated to be database-driven web applications, and substantial experience with the relevant software development tools in this area is essential. The successful applicant will have line-management and administrative responsibility for the team, including specifying the details of the contracted work, monitoring progress, and quality control.

Much of the development work will use open source software, and the manager will also be responsible for ensuring any developments are fed back to the international development community. This is a permanent appointment, subject to a satisfactory nine-month probation period, on a salary scale of £32,795 to £41,544 with initial salary depending on experience.

Flow Cytometry and Cell Sorting Specialist in the Cambridge Institute for Medical Research

An exciting opportunity for an experienced technologist has arisen to provide a flow cytometry core service. Responsible for the operation, maintenance, and development of the facility, the successful applicant will be well organized and able to prioritize and schedule use of the facilities. He/she will be expected to provide training to other scientists in the Institute in the use of the facilities which are jointly run with the adjacent Hutchison-MRC Research Centre in conjunction with their Flow Cytometrist. An ability to communicate effectively with experienced and inexperienced scientific staff and suppliers is required.

Applicants should possess a degree in a relevant biological or physical science and ideally have experience of flow cytometry and/or cell sorting, using Dakocytomation or Becton Dickinson instruments. However, applicants with experience in other advanced biomedical technologies will also be considered. The salary will be in the range of £24,402 to £31,840 a year. The funding for this post is available until 30 November 2011 in the first instance.
