Isaac Newton Trust College Teaching Officers in the Faculty of History

In association with the Isaac Newton Trust, the Faculty of History wishes to appoint four Newton Trust College Teaching Officers to commence 1 October 2007.

Under the terms of the scheme, the Faculty is authorized to appoint an existing College Teaching Officer as an Affiliated Lecturer for a period of between two and five years. The expectation of the Trust is that persons newly appointed under the scheme should normally have less than ten years of postdoctoral work experience (taking account of career breaks). It is possible that a person who has previously held an Isaac Newton Trust lectureship may be appointed, though the Trust reserves the right to restrict the tenure of that second appointment to a period shorter than five years, and in particular requires that no individual shall hold such an appointment for more than eight years in total. For individuals who were reappointed before 1 January 2005, a further, and final reappointment of up to two years, on like terms, is possible in due course.

A Newton Trust CTO is expected to give 24 lectures a year in the Faculty, to examine from time to time, to supervise research students, and to be involved in Faculty teaching arrangements. Further detailed information about the terms and conditions of Newton Trust CTOs can be found at http://www.newtontrust.cam.ac.uk/cam/schemes/cto/b.html.

Applications should comprise: a completed PD18 form (parts I and III only); a full curriculum vitae; a list of publications and work in progress; a brief statement about the applicant's contributions to Faculty teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level, and, if applicable, his/her involvement in administration; and a brief statement of what the applicant would propose to cover in Faculty lectures and classes if appointed. Applicants should give the names of two referees who should be asked to send their reports directly to the Faculty by the closing date given below, and should also include a brief note of confirmation that their College is willing for them to participate in this scheme (an e-mail from the Senior Tutor will be sufficient). These materials should be sent to Joanne Pearson, Faculty of History, Sidgwick Avenue, Cambridge, CB3 9EF (e-mail jen26@cam.ac.uk), to arrive no later than 1 May 2007. Further information about the Faculty of History is available at http://www.hist.cam.ac.uk/.
