University Composition Fees: Notice

12 March 2007

Home and EU undergraduate students

The Secretary of State for Education and Skills has recently announced that tuition fees for home and EU undergraduate students who started a relevant course before 1 September 2006 or who had deferred entry to the course from an earlier year will rise to £1,225 for the academical year 2007-08. For students who started a relevant course (i.e. one for which the fee category was A to C in the schedule appended to the regulations for University Composition Fees) on 1 September 2006 or later, and who had not deferred entry to the course from an earlier year, the University Composition Fee for 2007-08 will be £3,070.

Home and EU postgraduate students and overseas students

The Council has agreed to propose a rate of increase of 2.27% on 2006-07 fees for home and EU postgraduate students for the academical year 2007-08; this reflects the guidance offered by the Research Councils. Approval was given by Grace 1 of 15 March 2006 for fees for overseas students in 2007-08 to be increased by the expected inflation amount of 2.5%. The Council has agreed to propose that, for the year 2008-09, fees for overseas students should again be increased by the inflation amount only and that this should be taken as 2.5%.

Fees for the M.B.A. course and for certain M.St. courses

The Council has also agreed to propose fees for 2007-08 for the M.B.A. course and certain M.St. courses which have been recommended by the relevant bodies.

Definition of an overseas student for the purpose of University Composition Fees

The definition of an overseas student for the purpose of University Composition Fees is currently under revision.

The Council is accordingly submitting a Grace to the Regent House (Grace 2, p. 515) for the approval of the changes to the Table of Fees which result from the proposals in this Notice.
