Report of the General Board on the re-establishment of a Professorship of Developmental Genetics

The GENERAL BOARD beg leave to report to the University as follows:

1. In their Report on the establishment of certain fixed-term Professorships (Reporter, 2002-03, p. 519), the General Board proposed, inter alia, the establishment of a Professorship of Developmental Genetics in the Department of Genetics for Dr Daniel St Johnston for the period 1 October 2002 to 30 June 2007. The Professorship was established for a fixed term to coincide with the availability of external funds supporting the Wellcome Trust Principal Research Fellowship held by Dr St Johnston. The recommendations of this Report were approved by Grace 2 of 12 March 2003.

2. The Wellcome Trust have now renewed the funding for Professor St Johnston's Principal Research Fellowship for a further period of ten years. The School of the Biological Sciences have agreed to meet the cost of the Professorship for the remainder of Professor St Johnston's tenure, for the period to normal retirement (30 September 2027).

3. The General Board accordingly recommend the re-establishment of the Professorship of Developmental Genetics in the Department of Genetics from 1 July 2007 for the duration of Professor St Johnston's tenure.

4. The General Board recommend:

That the Professorship of Developmental Genetics, established by Grace 2 of 12 March 2003, be re-established from 1 July 2007 for the tenure of Professor Daniel St Johnston, placed in Schedule B of the Statutes, and assigned to the Department of Genetics.
